Greenfield basketball drawing some big-time attention

Some interesting news comes out of Greenfield where basketball season is just around the corner. The talented cast under head coach Rob Salter has attracted the attention of many college coaches, including Virginia's Dave Leitao, who was in Wilson last week. His target? Knights junior 6-foot-6 wing Brian Richardson, who was offered a scholarship, Salter told me today.

Richardson been contacted by several top-level programs and a host of mid-major teams but, Salter said, probably won't decide until after the season.

Richardson's teammate and good friend Brian McNair has given a verbal commitment to Gardner-Webb and plans to make it official with the NCAA Division I program next month during the signing period.

Also getting looks are juniors Darian Cahill and Jarred Hinton.

Former Hunt standout Jeremy Jeffers is now at Greenfield but the Knights lost promising youngster Damont Williams, who opted to attend Hunt this season.
