Former Wilsonian earns national honor

Collin Taylor, who grew up in Wilson before starring for the Morganton Freedom High School boys soccer team, has landed a pretty cool honor.

Taylor, an all-state goalkeeper, received Saturday the National Soccer Coaches Association/ADIDAS Boys High School Scholar All-America Team award.

Taylor spent his youth playing soccer on several Wilson Youth Soccer Association squads. His dad, Larry, served as WYSA president for several years before his work took him and the family to Burke County just before Collin was to begin high school at Fike. (Would have been nice to see Collin in a Golden Demons the past four years!)

Matt Collins of the Morganton News-Herald did a pretty neat story on Collin.
