Greenfield boys basketball head coach Rob Salter let me know the school has had many guests this week as a parade of college basketball head coaches and assistant coaches have stopped by.
Of course, the Knights boast a pair of major Division I recruits in Brian Richardson and Jeremy Jeffers but Jarred Hinton and Darian Cahill are getting their fair share of attention as well.
Head coaches from Marquette, Bucknell, Auburn, South Carolina, High Point and Winthrop have dropped in while assistant coaches from Maryland, Michigan, Alabama, Virginia Commonwealth, East Carolina, Auburn, UNC-Greensboro, Elon, UNC-Wilmington, Arizona State and Xavier have paid visits.

Brown won't be in N.Y. for NFL draft
The NFL front office, at least, doesn't think former Florida State and Beddingfield High defensive end Everette Brown will be one of the first nine picks in its draft on April 25-26.
Brown wasn't among the nine players invited by the league to attend the first day of the draft in New York City's Radio City Music Hall.
So instead of waiting for his name to be called in the infamous "green room," perhaps Brown, the 2005 Wilson Daily Times Ironman of the Year, will await the phone call from his future employer from his parents' house in Stantonsburg.
Depending on what mock draft (and there are dozens on the Internet) you've seen, Brown could go anywhere in the first round from ninth to Green Bay to 11th to Buffalo to 13th to Washington to 14th to New Orleans or 19th to Tampa Bay. ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. doesn't even have Brown in his top 16 and since I'm not an ESPN Insider, I can't check out the rest of Kiper's draft to find out who he thinks will take Brown, who ended his Seminoles career as one of the nation's top pass rushers.
The consensus does seem to suggest that Brown, who has played DE for his entire career, might end up as an outside linebacker in the NFL's current favorite 3-4 defense.

Boyette back on track
Duke redshirt senior running back Re'quan Boyette seems to have hit his stride already.
The 2005 Fike High School graduate peeled off a 55-yard scoring romp in the Blue Devils' 85-play scrimmage Friday morning in Wallace Wade Stadium.
That's good news for Boyette, who had 68 yards on six carries, who missed all last season with a leg injury after leading Duke in rushing in each of the previous two seasons.
The Blue Devils, who went 4-8 in head coach David Cutcliffe's inaugural season last fall, will play their annual Spring Game on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Wallace Wade. There is no admission charge.

Fike, Hunt, North Johnston maintain Wachovia Cup leads
The N.C. High School Athletic Association has released Wachovia Cup conference standings following the winter sports season and Fike, Hunt and North Johnston maintain their leads atop their respective conferences.
Fike won the girls swimming championship in the 3-A NEW 6 and leads Nash Central by five points and Rocky Mount by six points as we head into spring. Conference Standings:Fike 114, Nash Central 109, Rocky Mount 108.5, Northern Nash 96.5, Southern Nash 82, Southwest Edgecombe 68.
Hunt tied for first in the 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference in wrestling, girls basketball and girls and boys swimming and holds a seven-point edge over Eastern Wayne while Beddingfield is third, 18 points behind Hunt. Conference Standings: Hunt 120, Eastern Wayne 113, Beddingfield 102, Southern Wayne 99.5, C.B. Aycock 97, Kinston 48.5.
